Couple clinking glasses in the pool at The Lodge at Punta Rica

A Day at The Lodge: Breakfast, the Pool, and Not Much Else

People ask what there is to do at The Lodge at Punta Rica, our eco-lodge in Bocas del Toro. The honest answer: as much or as little as you like. Here is what a slow day looks like perched up on the hill at our lodge overlooking the water:

8:00: Breakfast, cooked to order

Breakfast is included and cooked to order, served from 8:00 to 10:00, with fresh juice and fruit. Take your time.

Morning: look up, then get in the water

Bring your coffee to the deck and watch the trees (keep an eye out: sloths, monkeys and tropical birds, oh my!). Then take out a kayak or paddleboard, or grab the snorkel gear, all there for guests to use. Want to go further? Red Frog Beach and Old Bank are short water-taxi rides away.

Midday: the pool

Our 32-foot cocktail pool sits in the garden, with the mural deck on one side and the jungle on the other. Find a float and stay a while. Just don’t try diving in the deep-end…because there isn’t one! Our pool is the same depth across the whole 32′ stretch.

12:00 to 3:00: lunch by the pool

The poolside lunch menu runs from noon until 3:00, so there is no rush to get out of the water.

Afternoon: a cocktail at the edge

The bar is open, and a drink on the pool edge by the mural is about as busy as the afternoon needs to get.

Sunset: the deck bar

Head up to the deck bar as the light goes. On a clear evening the sky over the bay turns every color.

Dinner, then quiet

Our chef cooks a three-course dinner six nights a week (not Sundays). After that, there are no TVs, just the sounds of the jungle and the water. Quiet hours start at 10:00 PM. We run on solar power and rainwater.
